CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – UNCW exploded for three goals in the first 46 minutes to earn its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Charlotte at Transamerica Field on Sunday afternoon.
The win evened the Seahawks' record at 1-1-0 while Charlotte fell for the second time in as many matches to begin the season.
Redshirt junior midfielder
Morgan Nanni gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 lead when she converted a penalty kick past senior goalkeeper Abby Stapleton.
With 5:46 remaining in the first half, UNCW doubled its advantage when senior forward
Audrey Harding netted an unassisted marker.
Freshman
Hayley Magnussen extended the cushion just 54 seconds into the second half with the first goal of her college career.
Charlotte trimmed the margin to 3-1 in the 55th minute when junior
Michaella Arteta took a crossing pass from freshman
Piper Biziorek and scored her first goal of the season past redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Anna Johnston.

Blair Barefoot teamed up to make six saves in the victory for the Seahawks while Stapleton and freshman
Emma Stapleton combined to make four saves for the 49ers.
Game Notes:
- UNCW and Charlotte met for the first time since the 2014 season … The Seahawks have won three of the last four encounters, but the 49ers still lead the series by a 6-5-0 margin.
- Each team registered 13 shots in the contest.
- Four different players have scored a goal in the Seahawks' first two games … In addition, Magnussen became the second freshman to net her first career tally, joining Madison Henry.
- UNCW improved to 18-2-2 since the start of the 2018 season when scoring the game's first goal … In addition, the Seahawks are now 16-2-1 when netting at least two goals in a contest.

- Johnston earned the first win of her college career in goal on Sunday.
- Nanni became the sixth player in UNCW history to score multiple penalty kick goals in a career … She is tied for fourth with two penalty kick conversions.
