Seahawks Blast Coastal in Home Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior forward Audrey Harding scored two goals and added an assist as UNCW opened the home portion of its 2021 spring women's soccer schedule with a 5-0 non-conference victory over Coastal Carolina at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Seahawks, playing their first home game in 493 days, upped their record to 2-1-0 after winning their second game in a row. Coastal Carolina, which opened the spring portion of its slate, saw its record move to 6-6-0 after losing its second straight contest.
 
Redshirt junior defender Grace Lynn-Lato gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead with 4:22 remaining in the first half when she scored her first career goal off a Harding assist.
 
Harding upped the Seahawks' advantage to 3-0 early in the second half with back-to-back goals. She converted a pass from junior defender Carey Allard in the 54th minute before adding her second tally of the game just over three minutes on a pass from Lynn-Lato.
 
With 20:51 remaining, freshman forward Hayley Magnussen extended the margin to 4-0 when she netted her second goal of the season on an assist from freshman defender Kara Mills.
 
Junior defender Alysa McLaughlin completed the scoring in the 78th minute when she blasted a 20-yard free kick into the upper right corner for the first goal of her college career.
 
Redshirt sophomore Anna Johnston and freshman Blair Barefoot teamed up to make one save for the Seahawks, who limited Coastal Carolina to just two shots, including no attempts in the second half.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Ky Hudson registered five saves for the Chanticleers.  
 
Game Notes:
  • UNCW improved to 15-10-2 all-time in its home openers, including a 4-1-1 mark in the last six instances … The Seahawks opened their home slate against Coastal Carolina for the second year in a row.
  • The Seahawks lead the all-time series against Coastal Carolina by an 11-1-0 margin and have won the last six installments … UNCW has also held the Chanticleers to just one goal during the six-game win streak.
  • Harding recorded her third career two-goal effort, including her second against Coastal Carolina … She notched two goals in last year's 3-1 victory in Wilmington.
  • Harding has registered the Seahawks' last three multi-goal games … In addition to her pair of two-goal efforts against Coastal Carolina, she also scored twice in a Sept. 13, 2019, victory over Middle Tennessee.
  • UNCW's five goals against Coastal Carolina are the most by the Seahawks in a game since Oct. 3, 2019, against Charleston in a 5-0 victory.
  • UNCW has scored three or more goals for the sixth time since the start of the 2019 season.
  • Four different Seahawks have scored the first goal of their careers through the team's first three games … Six different players have accounted for the Seahawks' nine goals.
  • UNCW recorded its first shutout since a 2-0 clean sheet against James Madison on Oct. 24, 2019.
  • The Seahawks outshot their opponent for the first time this season.
  • UNCW improved to 19-3-2 over the last three seasons when scoring first and 17-3-1 when scoring two or more goals.
