Northeastern Completes Weekend Sweep

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior guard Stella Clark matched her career highs with 28 points and nine assists as Northeastern completed a sweep of its Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball series against UNCW with a 78-58 victory at Trask Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.   
 
The victory allowed the Huskies to extend their win streak to three games while moving to 6-11 overall and 5-9 in the CAA. UNCW stands 3-12 overall and 0-9 in the circuit.
 
Clark, who recorded the eighth 20-point game of her college career, led three Northeastern players in double figures after knocking down 9-of-14 shots from the field, including a 5-for-7 showing from long range, while making 5-of-7 free throws. The Sea Girt, N.J., product also grabbed four rebounds with steals.
 
Sophomore forward Mide Oriyomi posted her fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while freshman guard Maddie Vizza sank 4-of-9 three-pointers to contribute 12 points.
 
Senior forward Carol-Anne Obusek paced UNCW in the loss with her fifth double-double in the last six games, scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Taylor Webster added 13 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Za'Nautica Downs came off the bench to chip in 11 points with five caroms.
 
Key Moment: Northeastern sprinted to a 12-3 lead in the opening four minutes of the game and never looked back en route to the wire-to-wire victory. The Huskies shot 44.4 percent from the field, including a 13-for-25 performance from three-point range, while sinking 9-of-11 free throws.

  • Northeastern has won 10 of the last 13 contests against UNCW, extending its series lead to 19-11.
  • The Seahawks committed fewer personal fouls than their opponent for the 12th time in 15 games this season after being whistled for 16 fouls against Northeastern on Sunday.
  • The Seahawks scored 16 second chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.
  • Obusek has led the Seahawks in rebounding in nine consecutive games after her 10-rebound performance against Northeastern on Sunday.
  • Obusek has scored in double figures in seven straight games after her 16-point showing against the Huskies … She has reached double figures in 13-of-14 games this season.
