NC State Spoils Seahawks' Season Opener

RALEIGH, North Carolina – Sophomore forward Leyah Hall-Robinson scored two goals, including the game-winning marker in overtime, to lead NC State to its second win in a row, a 2-1 pvertime victory over UNCW in non-conference women's soccer action at Dail Soccer Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The win elevated the Wolfpack's record to 2-0-0 on the young season while handing the Seahawks a loss in their season opener.

Hall-Robinson gave NC State the victory with 4:51 remaining in the first overtime period when she converted a pass from junior midfielder Toni Starova with a low shot to the far post.

UNCW took an early lead in the second minute when freshman midfielder Madison Henry scored the first goal of her college career when she knocked in a rebound of a shot by freshman defender Makaya Parham.

The Seahawks held the advantage until the 51st minute when Hall-Robinson took a pass from redshirt junior defender Lulu Guttenberger and scored her first goal of the season past goalkeeper Blair Barefoot.

Redshirt sophomore Anna Johnston made the first start of her career in goal for the Seahawks and made one save in the first half before Barefoot played the final 51 minutes.

Freshman goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta tallied two saves in the victory for NC State, which outshot the Seahawks by a 15-8 margin.
