DURHAM, North Carolina – Graduate student guard
Sierra DaCosta tallied a team-high 16 points, but UNCW was unable to overcome a strong start by Duke as the Blue Devils handed the Seahawks an 87-45 setback in non-conference women's basketball action at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, playing their first road game of the season, saw their record fall to 1-1. Duke, meanwhile, upped its record to 3-0 on the early season.

DaCosta was the lone UNCW player to score in double figures, connecting on 6-of-15 shots from the floor in addition to making four of her six free throws. The Philadelphia, Pa., native also chipped in three rebounds and two steals.

Carrie Gross added nine points with three rebounds for the Seahawks.

Duke, playing its second home game of the season, saw three players reach double figures. Senior guard
Miela Goodchild came off the bench to net a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, including a 4-for-8 showing from three-point range.

Celeste Taylor added 16 points with six rebounds while freshman guard Lee Volker contributed 11 points after making 5-of-9 field goal attempts.

- Duke leads the all-time series by an 11-2 count and has won seven straight meetings against UNCW.
- The Blue Devils never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 44 points midway through the fourth quarter.Â
- The Blue Devils outrebounded UNCW by a 56-26 margin, including a 28-13 edge on the offensive glass.
- All 14 players available for the Seahawks saw game action.
- UNCW freshmen Jayde Gamble, Selma Eklund and Jaliya Sharp made their collegiate debuts at Duke … Gamble scored four points, while Sharp registered a blocked shot.
- The Seahawks converted 13-of-15 free throws in Sunday's setback … UNCW made its first seven tries from the charity stripe before DaCosta's miss with 3:05 left in the third quarter.
