WILMINGTON, North Carolina – No. 6 South Carolina shot 8-under par in the final round to overtake No. 15 Michigan and claim its second consecutive Landfall Tradition title after the final round at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course on Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks, who entered the final round just one stroke behind the Wolverines, used a 280 team score to finish the tournament at 15-under par and win by 12 strokes. In addition, the Gamecocks' 849 team score eclipsed the tournament record previously held by Duke.
Michigan, which carded a 5-over par 293 in the final round, finished at 3-under par (289-279-293=861).
South Carolina junior
Justine Fournand returned to the top of the individual leaderboard to earn medalist honors at 8-under par (67-73-68=208), winning the crown by three strokes over Virginia Tech's
Emily Mahar.
Fournand, who held the lead on Friday before dropping to second place on Saturday, authored an eagle and six birdies in the final round. Her 8-under par tournament score was just one stroke off the Landfall Tradition record held by Wake Forest's
Jennifer Kupcho in 2016.
UNCW was led by senior
Phu Khine, who earned a share of 38th place after posting a 4-under par 68 in the final round.
Notes: Duke set the tournament record by shooting 855 in 2015 before South Carolina's record-setting 15-under par this year … South Carolina led the tournament field with 62 birdies and was the top team in par-3 (-3) and par-5 (-13) scoring … A group of six student-athletes combined to post seven eagles in the tournament, including two by Michigan's
