Seahawks Down JMU on Anderson's Golden Goal

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior forward Jalen Anderson scored the game-winning goal with 2:39 remaining in the second overtime period to lead UNCW to a 1-0 victory over No. 15 James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks, who played their fourth straight overtime game, improved to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the CAA. James Madison, meanwhile, saw an end to its six-game win streak and stands 10-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the league.

Anderson, who tallied his fourth goal of the season, gave UNCW the one-goal victory when he took a crossing pass from junior midfielder Omar Aboutaleb and slipped a shot that deflected off graduate student goalkeeper Martin Leu and into the upper part of the goal.

Junior Gabriel Perrotta notched four saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season for the Seahawks, who outshot James Madison by a 13-11 margin, including a 4-1 edge in the overtime periods.

Leu stopped four shots for the Dukes, who lost for the first time since a 2-1 setback at NC State on Sept. 14.

UNCW closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 19, with a 7 p.m. visit to former CAA rival VCU. James Madison returns home to face American in non-conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
