Student-Athletes Excel In Spring Semester

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Overcoming the many challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, UNCW's student-athletes compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.497 and all 19 teams compiled at least a 3.00 GPA during the Spring, 2020, semester.
 
The volleyball (3.845), beach volleyball (3.813), men's soccer (3.761), women's cross country (3.751) and women's tennis (3.736) teams led the way academically for the school's 332 student-athletes.
 
"Kudos to our student-athletes and academic support personnel," said Jimmy Bass, UNCW's athletic director. "I couldn't be prouder of their efforts during this trying time. Our student-athletes were faced with different degrees of uncertainty and answered the bell by turning in one of the best semesters ever in the classroom."
 
On top of the outstanding combined GPA, the group featured 285 student-athletes (86 percent) with a 3.00 or better GPA. Sixty student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 average.
