Seahawks Topped 6-1 By Tigers


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Memphis starter Carson Stinnett gave the Tigers their second strong start of the series as the righthander allowed just an unearned run over 7.1 innings in a 6-1 in over UNCW on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Tigers earned their second series win over the Seahawks in as many seasons and improved to 10-4. UNCW, which was coming off a road sweep of Kentucky last weekend, fell to 9-5.

Stinnett (1-1) allowed just five hits, walked one and struck out six in earning his first win of the season.

Taylor Howell and Braden Webb each had two hits for the Tigers who scored three times in the second inning and never looked back. Howell doubled and homered while Webb drove in three runs.

Brooks Baldwin had two hits for the Seahawks.

Starter Landen Roupp (3-1) took his first loss of the season but went eight innings and struck out seven.

Up next: The series concludes on Sunday with a noon start at Brooks Field.

Scoring:
T2: Max Hildreth drew a two-out walk and Austin Baskin followed with a two-strike double to score the first run. Chris Swansberg followed with a double of his own to make it 2-0 and Webb followed with a single to center to plate Swansberg for a 3-0 lead.
B6: Baldwin led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. With one out, Matt Suggs singled up the middle to score Baldwin for UNCW's lone run of the game.
T7: Webb struck again with a two-out double to right to score two more for a 5-1 Memphis lead.
T9: Howell led off the Memphis ninth with a homer to left to close out the scoring.

Inside the box score: Memphis went 4-for-9 with RISP and is 6-for-19 in the series and has seven two-out hits.
