WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomores
Gabriella Hessenthaler and
Janel Gamache combined for nine hits and six runs scored as UNCW split a pair of games against Brown and George Washington at the Seahawk Softball Classic at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who ran their record to 2-10 on the season, opened the day with a 7-0 victory over Brown before falling to George Washington by a 15-10 margin.
Hessenthaler went 5-for-7 with a triple and three runs scored, including a 3-for-4 effort against George Washington. Gamache, meanwhile, tallied four hits, including a pair of home runs against George Washington, with three runs scored and seven runs batted in.
Senior
Dominique Travers added a 3-for-6 effort in the doubleheader with a double and a run scored.
Senior pitcher
Rylee Pate earned the win against Brown after conceding just two hits with six strikeouts in a complete game effort.

Rachel Willis gave UNCW a 2-0 lead when she blasted her first home run of the season to center field before freshman
Savannah Lampley added a run on a stolen base and throwing error. UNCW added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the scoring.
How It Happened vs. George Washington: The Colonials surged to a 6-0 lead by scoring two runs in the first three innings. Gamache blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning before George Washington added five more runs over the ensuing two frames for an 11-3 margin it did not relinquish.
