WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Carly Robinson drove in the game's only run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning as Eastern Kentucky held off UNCW to earn a 1-0 victory in non-conference softball action at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels, who also defeated Brown by a 6-0 margin earlier on Sunday, ran their record to 12-2 on the season while extending their win streak to eight straight games. The Seahawks, meanwhile, stand 2-11 after closing out their first home weekend of the year.
With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, the Colonels started the eighth inning with junior Zoe Mihalicz on second base. After a sacrifice bunt moved Mihalicz to third base, Robinson's sacrifice fly to left field gave EKU a 1-0 lead.
UNCW got an infield single to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Seahawks runners on first and second base. After a sacrifice bunt by junior
Emily Langkamp moved both runners into scoring position, senior Mollie Paulick struck out the next two batters to end the game.
Paulick (5-1) earned the win for the Colonels after scattering just three hits over 6.2 innings with 11 strikeouts.
Senior
Rylee Pate, who dipped to 2-4 on the season, took the loss for UNCW with a complete game effort, conceding eight hits and one unearned run while fanning 11 hitters.
Sophomore
