AUBURN, Alabama – Auburn used an eight-run first inning to build an early lead and never looked back as the Tigers defeated UNCW, 10-1, at the Plainsman Invitational at Jane B. Moore Field on Sunday afternoon.
The victory catapulted the Tigers' record to 8-3 while UNCW closed out its play at the tournament with a 1-8 mark.
Junior Makenna Dowell and freshman Madison Koepke each tallied two hits to lead Auburn's nine-hit attack. Dowell went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two runs batted in while Koepke had a 2-for-2 effort at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in.
Sophomore
Janel Gamache, one of four UNCW players to record a hit in the loss, drove in the Seahawks' lone run with a single in the fifth inning.
How It Happened: Auburn scored eight runs on five hits in the first inning, including a RBI single and a solo home run from Dowell, to build an 8-0 lead the Tigers never relinquished.
Up Next: UNCW opens the home portion of its 2020 schedule next weekend by welcoming Brown, Eastern Kentucky and George Washington to Boseman Field for the Seahawk Softball Classic.
