Volleyhawks Win In Five

DURHAM, N.C. – Trailing 2-0 after two sets, UNCW rallied to win the next three for a 3-2 win over Wofford at the Duke Invitational on Saturday in Durham.

The Seahawks improved to 6-1 on the season while the Terriers remained winless in six attempts. UNCW is now 3-0 in five-set decisions.

"Wofford was a tough team to play because their determination matched ours in the first two sets," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek.

Junior Jaime Thomas, who made her season debut this weekend following an injury, held match-high honors with 14 kills and completed her second double-double of the weekend with 13 digs.

"Jaime one again had a steady match all around and Madison's (Peters) presence at the net gave us a huge advantage in those pressure moments.

Madison Peters, a senior, added 13 kills and four blocks. UNCW forced three Wofford hitting errors in the decisive 3-1 run to end the fifth set at 19-17.

Both Thomas and Peters were named to the All-Tournament team.

Junior Brynn Montgomery collected her fifth double-double of the season and narrowly missed her second triple-double, finishing with nine kills, 31 assists and 13 digs.

Five Terriers finished in double-digit kills with Riley Coonan and Kennedy Smith leading the way with 13 apiece.

Wofford hit .405 in the winning the first set, 25-17, and .385 in a 25-20 second set victory.

The Seahawks close out their seven-match road stretch next weekend in Davidson, N.C. UNCW opens the Davidson Invitational against North Carolina Central on Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
