Montgomery Triple-Double Highlights UNCW Win

First Seahawk Triple-Double Since 2003

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Junior Brynn Montgomery posted UNCW's first triple-double since 2003 to lead the Seahawks past Campbell in five sets on Tuesday at Gore Arena.

The Seahawks remained perfect on the season with their fourth straight win. The Camels, meanwhile, dropped their fourth consecutive outing also to open the season.

Montgomery, who has flirted with triple-doubles several times in her career, finished with 11 kills, 20 assists and 11 digs.

In 2003, Bea Gerevich fashioned a school-record nine triple-doubles with the final one coming at Hofstra on Nov. 1. Gerevich finished that match with 10 kills, 23 assists and 11 digs.

In the fifth set, Campbell built a 14-11 lead following an ace by Elyse Gross. The Seahawks, however, used a kill from Madison Peters, a senior, and a pair of hitting errors by CU to draw even.

The final two points and a match win went to the Seahawks on a pair of setting errors.

Senior Kendall Bender led UNCW with a season-high 13 kills while Peters added nine. Sophomore Rebecca Nuanez came off the bench to collect six kills in nine attacks in the final two sets.

Junior Anna Weissmann, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 21 digs, one more than her career high set earlier this season.

CU's Sarah Colla led all with 19 kills on the evening and rounded out a double-double with 12 digs.

Gross finished with a match-high 30 digs while Madee Miner added 25 to go along with 17 assists.

The Seahawks continue their seven-match road stretch on Friday at the Duke Invitational. UNCW opens the tournament against Appalachian State at 10 a.m. and close out the first day with a 7 p.m. start against Duke.
