GREENVILLE, South Carolina – Sophomore
Phu Khine fired a three-under-par 69 as UNCW moved higher on the Furman Paladin Invitational leaderboard after a strong second round at the Furman University Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who opened play in sixth place, moved up to fourth place after carding a 296 team score. Wake Forest extended its lead over Furman to nine strokes after posting a 289 team score in the middle round.
Khine, who was tied for 15th place at the beginning of Saturday's round, fashioned four birdies against just one bogey to elevate into a tie for second place with Wake Forest's Siyun Liu.
Senior
Thao My Nguyen shot a three-over-par 75 to move into a tie for 29th place with freshman
Mallory Fobes.
Coach Cindy Ho Says: "I was really pleased with our team's play today. We finished with the fourth best score on a golf course that was playing more difficult due to tougher pin positions. We struggled at the beginning of the round but I am really proud of the players for coming back on the back nine. Everyone had to pitch in and we are looking forward to the final round. Phu had a great round. She had to make numerous difficult up and down shots throughout the round to keep her momentum going. She's playing with a lot of confidence right now."
Up Next: The third round of the Furman Paladin Invitational is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
