GREENVILLE, South Carolina – Freshman
Mallory Fobes carded an even-par 72 to lead UNCW during the opening round of the Furman Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
Led by Fobes, the Seahawks completed the first round in sixth place after posting a 297 team score. Wake Forest shot a two-under-par 286 to take a six-stroke lead over the host Paladins.
Fobes, who ended Friday's first round in a tie for 11th place, fashioned four birdies in the round, including three birdies in the first seven holes.
Sophomore
Phu Khine fired a one-over-par 73 to close the first round in a tie for 15th place while senior
Thao My Nguyen and sophomore
Amy Wooten hold a share of 37th place at four-over-par.
Coach Cindy Ho Says: "It was a good start to the tournament. Mallory and Phu played well and had solid rounds for us to lead the team. Our ball striking was very good and we had a lot of birdie opportunities. Holes 6-9 gave us some trouble but they include a tough stretch of three long par 4's. We look forward to making some adjustments and posting a good score tomorrow."
Up Next: The second round of the Furman Paladin Invitational takes place on Saturday, Sept. 28, with a split tee start at 9 a.m.
