Thomas Helps Seahawks To Split

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Jamie Thomas had 13 kills and 15 digs to power UNCW past North Carolina A&T (26-24, 25-17, 25-15) in a three-set sweep in the final match of the Hampton Inns Classic on Saturday at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks, who lost in four sets earlier in the day to Western Carolina, improved to 13-3 while the Aggies dipped to 2-12.

Thomas, a junior, did most of her damage in the third set, finishing with six kills in 11 attacks.

Junior Brynn Montgomery added eight kills and 11 assists while senior Madison Peters chipped in seven kills.

Edie Brewer and Fatimah Shabazz had eight kills apiece for the Aggies.

In UNCW first match of the day, Abigail Veit had a match-high 18 kills for WCU as the Catamounts out-hit the Seahawks, .222-.120. Merry Gebel added 15 kills and nine digs.

Peters paced the Seahawks with 15 kills while junior Anna Weissmann posted a career-high 26 digs.

The Seahawks open Colonial Athletic Association play next week beginning on Sept. 26 at preseason favorite James Madison.
