RICHMOND, Virginia – Junior Karen Lohrmann scored the game-winning goal with 4:34 remaining in regulation as VCU edged UNCW, 2-1, in a clash of former Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer rivals at Sports Backers Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Rams to remain unbeaten at 4-0-0 while the Seahawks dropped to 3-1-0 on the year.
VCU took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when redshirt senior Amanda Tredway knocked in a rebound of a shot by junior Samantha Jerabek. It was Tredway's first goal of the season.
The Rams continued to hold the one-goal advantage until the 78th minute when redshirt sophomore
Morgan Nanni tallied her third goal of the season when she drilled a long-range shot off the crossbar and over the goal line.
But, the Rams regained the lead in the 86th minute when Lohrmann drilled a shot from 19 yards into the lower left corner of the goal off an assist from junior Ellen McAdams.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Grace Young tallied two saves in the win for VCU, which outshot the Seahawks by an 18-7 margin. Junior
Sydney Schneider recorded four saves for UNCW.
