MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Redshirt senior Ian McCauley scored the game-winning goal with 5:27 remaining in regulation as Stetson edged UNCW, 2-1, in the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Hatters to close the opening weekend with a 2-0-0 record while UNCW dipped to 0-2-0 on the young season.
Stetson took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when senior Chris DeGance scored his first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Sebastian Chalbaud.
But, the Seahawks answered in the 60th minute as junior
Jacob Evans took a pass from freshman
Colton Pleasants and scored his first goal of the season past freshman goalkeeper Lute Lillo-Portero.
However, McCauley regained the one-goal advantage for the Hatters when headed in a corner kick from senior Gabriel Diniz.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Kyle McGovern made four saves in the first start of his college career for the Seahawks while Lillo-Portero had two stops for Stetson.
Up Next: The Seahawks open the home portion of their regular season schedule next weekend by welcoming Charleston, Presbyterian and Radford to UNCW Soccer Stadium for the UNCW Springhill Suites Classic.
