WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman
Parker Norris scored two goals, including the game-winning tally with 2:29 remaining in regulation, as UNCW secured a 2-1 exhibition men's soccer victory over No. 10 Duke in front of 1,342 fans at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The win lifted the Seahawks' preseason record to 2-0-0 while Duke dropped to 0-1-1 in its exhibition contests.
After a scoreless first half, Norris gave UNCW a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute when he knocked home a rebound of a shot by senior
Phillip Goodrum that hit the crossbar.
But, the Blue Devils answered just over 10 minutes later when sophomore Conor Kelly slipped an unassisted goal past redshirt junior goalkeeper
Kyle McGovern.
However, Norris came through just 10 seconds later with the game-winning goal when he quickly took a pass from redshirt junior
Mason Schuster in transition and scored on a shot to the near post.
Up Next: The Seahawks complete their preseason schedule on Sunday, Aug. 25, when they host South Carolina in a 2 p.m. contest.
