CAA Honors Savarino, Wood

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Tennis standout Agustin Savarino and track and field star Dylan Wood of UNCW have been named recipients of the Colonial Athletic Association's Leadership and Sport Excellence Award.

One student-athlete from each of the 19 sports sponsored by the CAA was recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments. Recipients embodied the highest standards of leadership, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship in their many achievements.

A senior from Mar del Plata, Argentina, Savarino was a First-Team All-CAA selection this past spring, becoming one of just three Seahawks to earn the honor three times. He was awarded the Lorrie Joseph Open A Door Travel Scholarship from the Cameron School of Business and was recipient of the Chancellor's Cup Award, the school's highest academic honor for a male student-athlete.

Savarino, a member of CAA championship squads in 2017 and 2018, earned ITA All-Academic honors and CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction four consecutive years. He was recipient of the North Carolina CPA Foundation, Inc., undergraduate scholarship and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in Finance and Accounting last month.

Wood, a junior from Fairfax, Va., finished fourth in the high jump at the 2019 CAA Men's Track & Field Championships after winning the event one year ago. He is majoring in history.
