ELON, N.C. – Sophomore
Landen Roupp went the distance for UNCW in the first game of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader on Sunday at Latham Park as the Seahawks edged Elon, 2-1. The Phoenix earned a split with a 2-1 win in the bottom of the 11th inning in the nightcap.
The Seahawks moved to 26-27 with the split, but earned a series win over the Phoenix to run their record to 10-11 in the league. Elon, meanwhile, improved to 30-22 and 19-5.
Roupp (4-2) tossed his first career complete game and the first for UNCW this season. The righthander allowed an unearned run on two hits, a walk and he struck out five.
In game two,
Zarion Sharpe tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts, but did not figure in the decision. The lefthander held Elon off the board for 6.2 innings, allowing two hits and walking one.
Breydan Gorham (1-1) took the loss in the second game.
Cole Weiss led the Seahawks with four hits on the game, including three in the second game.
Anthony Galason had two hits and drove in both runs in the second game for Elon.
Reliever Brandon Justice (2-1) was saddled with the loss in the opener for Elon and reliever Ty Adcock (4-1) earned the win in game two, striking out six over 3.2 innings.
Up next: The Seahawks close out the CAA schedule with three games against James Madison at Brooks Field. The series opens with a 6 p.m. start on Thursday.
How it happened:
Game 1: Meadows lead off the sixth inning with a triple to right center and scored two batters later when Weiss lined a single up the middle through a drawn in infield for a 2-1 lead.
Game 2: IN the 11th inning, Elon's Tyler Stanley reached on an infield single with one out. He stole second and Anthony Galason followed with a double off UNCW reliever
Justin Crump to score Stanley with the winning run.
