Seahawks Blank Dragons in Series Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Haley Lenderman authored her fifth shutout of the season as UNCW blanked Drexel, 1-0, in the finale of the Colonial Athletic Association softball series at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who ended a three-game losing skid, improved to 22-18 overall and 4-5 in the CAA. Drexel, meanwhile, saw an end to its eight-game win streak and stands at 23-12-1 overall and 7-2 in the circuit.

Lenderman, who evened her record to 8-8 in the circle, scattered just three hits in her ninth complete game effort of the season. She also recorded a pair of strikeouts in the victory.

Junior Devon Grippe took the loss for Drexel, giving up one run on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.

How It Happened: Freshman Casey Jones drove in the game's only run in the bottom of the second inning when her sacrifice fly brought home freshman Janel Gamache.

Notes: Redshirt junior Rachel Willis reached base safely for the 12th consecutive game after earning a walk in the third inning … Lenderman moved into a tie for sixth place in school history with her seventh career shutout … The Seahawks improved to 3-7 in one-run games this year and 16-4 when holding an opponent to two runs or less … UNCW turned a season-high three double plays in Sunday's series finale.
