JMU Sweeps Twinbill From Seahawks

HARRISONBURG, Virginia – No. 20 James Madison used a strong offensive performance to sweep a Colonial Athletic Association softball doubleheader against UNCW at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Dukes, who upped their record to 30-7 overall and 10-1 in the CAA, earned an 8-0 victory in the first game before completing the sweep with a 13-0 triumph. UNCW dipped to 22-20 overall with a 4-7 mark in league play.
 
Sophomore Sara Jubas paced the Dukes by going 3-for-4 in the doubleheader with a double, two home runs and eight runs batted in.
 
Freshman Janel Gamache went 3-for-5 in the twinbill to lead UNCW, which opened an eight-game road swing with Saturday's doubleheader.
 
How It Happened – Game 1: The Dukes surged to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by sophomore Logan Newton and a two-run double by Jubas. James Madison added two more runs in the second inning before securing the victory with two additional runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.
 
How It Happened – Game 2: James Madison used another four-run first inning to take an early lead. The Dukes also added six runs in the second frame before a three-run third inning to secure the doubleheader sweep.  
 
Up Next: UNCW and James Madison complete their three-game CAA series on Sunday, Apr. 14, with a single game set for 11 a.m.
