Drexel Sweeps Twinbill from Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Megan Trivelpiece went 6-for-7 with a double and two runs batted in to lead Drexel to a doubleheader sweep over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association softball action at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons, who extended their record to 23-11-1 overall and 7-1 in the CAA, rallied to take an 8-6 victory in the opener before securing the sweep with a 12-0 triumph in a five-inning contest. UNCW, meanwhile, dipped to 21-18 overall with a 3-5 mark in league play.

Trivelpiece spearheaded Drexel's 26-hit attack in the doubleheader sweep with a pair of three-hit games, going 3-for-3 in the opener before a 3-for-4 showing in the nightcap.

Three other Drexel players – sophomore Elena Woulfe, senior Taylor M. Lee and sophomore Kristi DiMeo – each added three hits as the Dragons ran their winning streak to eight straight games.

Sophomore Brooklyn Daly earned the victory in the circle during the opener after allowing six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Junior Devon Grippe secured the win in the nightcap by allowing just one hit in 5.0 innings.

Junior Dominique Travers blasted two home runs with three RBI to lead the Seahawks in the doubleheader while senior Hannah Adamczyk added three hits, including a pair of doubles.

How It Happened – Game 1: The Dragons used a five-run sixth inning to overcome a 4-3 deficit and secure the victory. After junior Linda Rush tied the game with a fielder's choice, DiMeo gave Drexel a 6-4 advantage with a two-run single to center field. Sophomore Haley Hulitt added an RBI groundout before Trivelpiece's single up the middle brought home two more runs.

How It Happened – Game 2: Drexel exploded for seven runs on six hits, including five doubles, in the opening frame for a 7-0 lead the Dragons did not relinquish. The Dragons added a single run in the second inning on a Lee single before a four-run fifth frame completed the scoring.

Notes: Redshirt junior Rachel Willis has now reached base safely in 11 consecutive games after drawing a walk in each contest on Saturday … Travers hit two home runs in a game for the second time in her career … UNCW hit multiple home runs in a game for the eighth time this year … UNCW ended a streak of five straight games without a home run with Travers' two blasts in the opener.

Up Next: UNCW and Drexel finish their three-game CAA series on Sunday, Apr. 7, with a single game set for noon.
