Cougars Top Seahawks In Finale,10-3


CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston reliever Josh Prince held UNCW to a run over five innings as the Cougars salvaged a game in the Colonial Athletic Association series with a 10-3 win on Sunday at Patriots Points.

The Cougars averted a sweep and improved to 28-16 and 10-5 in the conference. The Seahawks, who won the series on Saturday, dropped to 23-23 and 7-8.

Dupree Hart collected four hits, including his first two home runs of the season, and knocked in five runs to lead the Cougars. Chaz Davey also drove in three runs on a pair of hits.

Greg Jones had three hits, scored and drove in a run.

Prince (6-3) allowed a run on four hits and a walk over five innings. Nathan Ocker picked up his 10th save.

Justin Walke (0-3) took the loss.

Up next: UNCW visits NC State on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.

How it happened: The Cougars sent nine hitters to the plate in a four-run second inning and took a 5-1 lead. The inning began with a lead off walk and Chris Graham and Luke Manzo loaded the bases with singles. Dupree Hart began the scoring with a third consecutive hit and Chaz Davey added a two-run single later in the inning.

Notes: Kep Brown singled in the fifth inning to extend his on base streak to 29 games and moving into a tie for 10th all-time at UNCW … The Seahawks have won three of their five CAA series this season.
