Zayicek Homers In The Ninth For the Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior Riley Zayicek's two-run homer with two out in the top of the ninth completed a comeback as UNCW erased a 5-3 deficit to the College of Charleston for a 6-5 Colonial Athletic Association win on Friday at Patriots Point.

The Seahawks evened their record at 22-22 on the season and snapped a four-game losing streak in conference play to improve to 6-7. The Cougars, meanwhile, dropped to 27-15 and 9-4 in the league.

Led by Zayicek's three hits, UNCW outhit the Cougars, 13-8. Adding two-hit games for the Seahawks were Cole Weiss, who also homered, Kep Brown and Brooks Baldwin. Noah Bridges collected three hits, including a pair of doubles.

Reliever Blake Morgan (2-2) was credited with the win while CofC's Nathan Ocker took the loss to go to 5-2.

Bradley Dixon had two hits for the Cougars, who plated five runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.

Up next: Game two of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m.

How it happened: The Seahawks opened the ninth with a pair outs, but Bridges ignited the rally with a double. Baldwin followed with an RBI single on a two-strike pitch to plate Bridges and make it 5-4. Zayick stepped to the plate and drove a 0-1 offering from Ocker over the wall in right for a 6-5 lead.
