Streak Halted With 3-1 Win Over Campbell

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Jackson Meadows collected three hits and stole two bases as UNCW ended a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Campbell on Wednesday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks, who swept the home-and-home series from the Camels, improved to 21-22 while Campbell dropped to 25-15.

Greg Jones added two hits while Cole Weiss and Brooks Baldwin added RBI hits. Riley Zayicek homered, his fourth of the season, coming off the bench in the seventh inning.

The Camels managed five hits, drew seven walks and were hit three times, but a season-high tying three double plays by UNCW helped the Seahawks.

Spencer Packard singled and scored a run for Campbell.

UNCW reliever Nick Bruno (1-0) retired all six batters he faced and earned the win. Zarion Sharpe allowed a leadoff single in the ninth before settling down and earning his first save.

CU starter Ryan Chasse (5-2) took the loss, allowing two runs over six innings.

Up next: The Seahawks visit the College of Charleston this weekend for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series. Friday's first-pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Patriots Point.

How it happened: UNCW scored single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings. Baldwin opened the scoring with a RBI single in the second and Weiss made it 2-0 UNCW with a two-out RBI single in the fifth. Zayicek led off the seventh with a pinch-hit homer to center to close out UNCW's scoring.

Notes: The Seahawks used six pitchers on the game … Bruno struck out three in his two innings of work … An unearned run in the top of the eighth ended UNCW's bid for a shutout … The Seahawks knocked off Campbell, 5-1, earlier this season in Buies Creek … With 11 hits, UNCW now has double digit hits in three straight games.
