CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – North Carolina used a three-run sixth inning to outlast UNCW by a 3-0 margin in a non-conference softball game at Anderson Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The win elevated the Tar Heels' record to 30-15 on the season while UNCW saw its record move to 24-24.
Senior Kiani Ramsey led the Tar Heels to the victory by going 2-for-3 with a RBI single while freshman Hannah George earned the win in the circle after surrendering just three hits en route to her fifth shutout of the season.
The Seahawks were led by senior
Anna Hessenthaler, who collected two hits, while senior
Haley Lenderman scattered four hits over 5.2 innings with three strikeouts.
How It Happened: The Tar Heels scored three unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the victory. Sophomore Kristina Burkhardt gave North Carolina a 2-0 lead with a two-run single before Ramsey added an insurance run with a RBI single up the middle.
Up Next: UNCW returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend by hosting Hofstra for a three-game series at Boseman Field. The Seahawks and the Pride will tangle in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 27, at noon before closing the weekend with a single game at noon on Sunday, Apr. 28.
