Seahawks Stroll Past Rockets, 13-5

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Brooks Baldwin drove in four runs and UNCW took advantage of 12 walks as the Seahawks topped visiting Toledo,13-5, on Thursday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks evened their record at 7-7 with the home win while the Rockets dropped to 5-6.

UNCW reliever Justin Crump (1-0), who missed both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, earned his first win since Apr. 13, 2016 at High Point. Crump struck out a career-high seven over three innings of relief.

Baldwin raised his batting average to .340 and now has 13 runs batted in.

Jackson Meadows had two hits and scored twice for UNCW while Riley Zayicek added a two-run double.

Chris Meyer had two hits to lead the Rockets and added two RBI's. Trace Hatfield also had two RBI's.

Bryce Davis (0-1) took the loss.

Up next: The Seahawks open a three-game series with Siena on Saturday with a noon doubleheader.

How it happened: UNCW plated seven runs in the sixth inning without aid of a hit. Toledo, which used three pitchers in the inning, issued six walks, committed an error and hit a batter.

Inside the box score: The Seahawks scored 5-of-7 runners from third on the game … Seahawk pitchers did not allow a two-out hit … 12 walks drawn by the Seahawks were a season high.

Notes: UNCW starter Zarion Sharpe tossed three hitless innings and left with the game tied at 1-all … Greg Jones extended his consecutive games reached safely to 25, dating back to last season … Doug Angeli, meanwhile, has done so in 13 straight games … Rian Haire made his UNCW debut, walking one and striking out one in one inning of work … 13 runs scored were a season-high … Cole Weiss drove in a run for the fifth straight game and has 11 RBI's over that span.
