Seahawks Fall To Rockets, 5-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Toledo scored five runs in the third through the fifth innings to upend UNCW, 5-3, on Wednesday at Brooks Field.

The Rockets improved to 5-5 while the Seahawks dipped to 6-7.

Brad Boss and Michael Ryan paced the Rocket lineup with two hits apiece while Zach Swartzenberger drove in two runs. Eight of the nine starters had hits on the afternoon.

Starter Axel Bueter (1-0) earned the win with four shutout innings in a predetermined start. Nate Haugh nailed down his third save with a scoreless ninth.

Cole Weiss had two hits and drove in two for UNCW.

Landen Roupp (0-1) was tagged with the loss for UNCW.

Up next: The Seahawks and Rockets wrap up their brief two-game series with a 4 p.m. start on Thursday. Junior Zarion Sharpe (0-0) is set to make the start for UNCW.

How it happened: UT got on the board in the third with a two-out walk that would come around to score on back-to-back singles by John Servello and Chris Myers. UT struck for two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Schwartzenberger and Boss for a 3-0 lead.

Inside the box score: UNCW landed its leadoff hitter on base twice while Toledo did so six times … Two of those hitters came around to score.

Notes: Greg Jones singled in the third to push his consecutive games on base safely to 24 … Weiss has 10 runs batted in in his last four games and has raised hit batting average to .340 … Nick Bruno struck out four in relief to tie his career high.
