Brown Homers In 9-2 Loss

CONWAY, S.C. – UNCW's Kep Brown homered for the second straight outing, but Coastal Carolina knocked off the Seahawks, 9-2, to win the season series on Wednesday at Springs Brooks Stadium.

The Chanticleers ran their record to 19-6-1 with the win while the Seahawks dropped to 15-11 and saw their four-game winning streak halted.

CCU starter Anthony Veneziano (3-0) struck out nine over seven innings, scattering three hits and walking just one.

Kieton Rivers led the Chants at the plate with a pair of home runs and driving in five runs. Cameron Pearcey added two hits.

UNCW starter Zarion Sharpe (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs over three innings. Sharpe struck out a season-high five.

Broadus Roberson and Cole Weiss collected hits for UNCW.

Up next: The Seahawks return to Colonial Athletic Association play this Friday when they host William & Mary at 6 p.m.

How it happened: UNCW plated the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the second inning, but Rivers gave CCU the lead with two-run shot to left off Sharpe. Rivers fueled a four-run third inning with an opposite field dinger with two on for a 6-1 lead.

Notes: Brown has tied the UNCW record with runs batted in in nine straight games.
