WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Riley Thies and senior Nicole Stockinger each recorded three-hit efforts as Towson avoided a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series sweep against UNCW by handing the Seahawks an 8-1 loss in the finale at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who saw a six-game win streak snapped, dropped to 20-13 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. Towson, meanwhile, improves to 14-12 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Thies went 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored while Stockinger added a 3-for-5 showing with a double and a run batted in.
Freshman pitcher Sara Johnson improved to 6-3 on the season after earning the win in relief, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts in the final two innings.

Haley Lenderman suffered the loss after giving three earned runs on nine hits over 4.0 innings.
How It Happened: Towson scored seven unanswered runs to break a 1-all tie to earn the victory. The Tigers scored in six of the seven innings, including a pair of two-run efforts in the fifth and seventh frames.
Up Next: UNCW returns to non-conference play on Wednesday, Mar. 27, with a 6 p.m. single game at NC State. The Seahawks continue CAA action next weekend with a three-game series at Elon.
