Bridges Leads UNCW In 15-6 Rout

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore Noah Bridges drove in a career-high five runs as UNCW opened its weekend series with a 15-6 rout of Memphis on Friday at FedExPark.

The Seahawks improved to 11-8 with the road win while the Tigers dipped to 8-8 and saw their four-game winning streak halted.

Bridges led the Seahawks with a pair of hits, including his first career-homer, a three-run shot in a five-run top of the ninth. Five other Seahawks posted two hits games as UNCW had season highs in runs and hits.

Justin Crump (2-0) earned the win in relief. The righthander struck out four and allowed two hits over 2.2 innings of shutout baseball.

Kyle Oullette held game-high honors for Memphis with four hits.

UM starter Hunter Smith struck out nine but took the loss to fall to 2-2.

Up next: The series continues on Saturday with a 2 p.m. CST start.

How it happened: The Seahawks broke a 3-all tie with a four-run sixth inning. Greg Jones tripled to leadoff the inning and scored two batters later on an infield single by Kep Brown. A wild pitch scored a run and Jackson Meadows added a RBI single to cap the scoring.

Notes: Weiss extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a fifth inning single … UNCW scored in double figures for the sixth time this season … UNCW's previous high for runs was 13 against Toledo (Mar. 7) and hits was 13 against Valpo (Mar. 2) … UNCW is now 1-1 on the road.
