Seahawks Defeat La Salle, 6-2

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Junior Dominique Travers recorded three hits, including her team-leading sixth home run of the season, to lead UNCW to its sixth win in the last seven games, a 6-2 non-conference victory over La Salle in the Seahawks' final game at the Jacksonville/UNF Spring Break Challenge on Sunday morning.

The Seahawks, who closed the tournament with a 4-1 mark, improved to 13-10 on the season while La Salle dropped to 2-7.

UNCW took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Travers scored after senior Anna Hessenthaler reached base on a La Salle throwing error.

The Explorers claimed a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run double by freshman Natalie Rios before the Seahawks evened the score at 2-2 on a RBI groundout by junior Meghan Whitecavage in the fourth inning.

After freshman Camryn Dean reclaimed a one-run edge for the Seahawks with a bunt single in the sixth inning, UNCW added three more runs in the seventh, including Travers' solo shot to lead off the inning, to make it a 6-2 game.

Travers, who authored her second three-hit game of the season, went 3-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run and two runs scored. Sophomore Carson Shaner added a 2-for-4 showing with a run scored.

Senior Haley Lenderman upped her record to 4-3 in the circle after allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game effort.

Up Next: The Seahawks return home next weekend to begin a 10-game homestand by hosting Canisius, Eastern Kentucky and Youngstown State for the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Seahawk Softball Invitational.
