Diamond Hawks Finish Off Sweep

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Greg Jones' two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth lifted UNCW to a 2-1 win over Siena as the Seahawks finished off a weekend sweep at Brooks Field on Sunday.

UNCW extended its winning streak to four and improved to 10-7 on the season. The Saints, losers of their last four, fell to 3-10.

Cole Weiss and Jones each had two hits as pitching dominated the game on both sides.

Ryan McGee paced Siena with a pair of hits.

Landen Roupp (1-1) pitched a perfect eighth inning for his first career win and Henry Ryan notched his first career save.

Reliever Dylan D'Anna (0-3) took the loss for Siena.

Up Next: The Seahawks conclude their homestand on Mar.13 with a 6 p.m. start against North Carolina.

How it happened: Siena carried a 1-0 lead into the eighth before the Seahawks were able to muster a comeback. Doug Angeli singled with one out and Weiss followed with a single through the left side. A ground out moved both runners up and Jones tripled down the right field line and into the bullpen to give UNCW the lead.

Inside the box score: Pitchers combined for 25 strikeouts on the game with UNCW recording 16 … Neither starter figured in the decision … Siena's Ben Seiler tossed four shutout innings, allowed four hits, walked two and struck out seven … Gage Herring tied his career-high with nine strikeouts and allowed two hits and three walks over five innings … Siena was 0-10 with RISP while UNCW was 2-12 … Weiss and Jones had the only two-out hits in the game.

Notes: Weiss now has an eight-game hitting streak, but his RBI streak was halted at seven games … Today was UNCW's second win of the season in its last at bat … Jones stole three bases for the second time this season, he tied the school record of four earlier this year … The Seahawk pitching staff held Siena to a .129 batting average and posted 43 strikeouts on the weekend … UNCW went 4-1 on the week, including a series split with Toledo in midweek action.
