BOSTON, Massachusetts – Senior
Chinyere Bell and redshirt junior guard
GiGi Smith each netted 11 points, but an early surge by Northeastern was too much to overcome as the Huskies defeated UNCW, 83-54, in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action at Cabot Center on Friday evening.

The loss dipped the Seahawks' record to 16-11 overall and 9-7 in the CAA. Northeastern, meanwhile, ended a three-game losing skid to stand at 16-10 overall and 6-9 against league foes.

Senior guard Jess Genco led Northeastern to the victory by scoring a game-high 28 points, making 10-of-16 shots from the floor, including a 6-for-10 showing from three-point range. Junior guard Shannon Todd added 18 points while freshman guard Kendall Currence chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Â
Bell scored in double figures for the eighth time in the last nine games after registering her 11-point effort, which including a 7-for-9 effort from the foul line, while pacing the Seahawks with six rebounds.
Â
Smith authored her 14th consecutive double-digit scoring performance after making 4-of-12 field goal attempts and both of her free throws.
Â
Key Moment: Genco scored 10 of her 28 points in the game's opening 11 minutes as the Huskies sprinted to a 21-5 lead and never looked back en route to the wire-to-wire victory. Â
