WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW used an early run and a strong pitching effort to blank North Carolina A&T, 1-0, in the opening day of the Courtyard by Marriott Seahawk Softball Classic at Boseman Field on Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who ended a brief two-game losing streak, evened their record to 7-7 while the Aggies dropped to 0-7 on the season. Lehigh outlasted UMBC, 6-3, in the opening game of the tournament.

Haley Lenderman and
Laurel Koontz teamed up with freshman
Kelly Toomey in the circle to pitch the shutout, combining to scatter just four hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Koontz earned the win in relief after throwing 4.2 innings while Toomey secured the final outs for her first collegiate save.
Freshman
Jada Santiago scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first inning when she blasted her third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.
Schedule Update: The final two games of Friday's schedule were postponed due to inclement weather and will now be played on Sunday afternoon, creating a four-game schedule.
