Seahawks Fall to No. 1 Florida State, 7-2

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - Junior Dominique Travers blasted her second home run in as many games, but it was not enough as the Seahawks dropped a 7-2 decision against defending NCAA champion and No. 1-ranked Florida State at the Joanne Graf Classic at the Seminole Softball Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks dropped to 1-1 on the early season while the Seminoles opened their 2019 campaign with the victory.

Florida State used three hits and a UNCW error to build a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Dani Morgan gave the Seminoles a 1-0 lead with an RBI single to right field before junior Anna Shelnutt drove in two more runs on a single to left field. The Seminoles added a fourth run on a Seahawk error with two outs in the frame.

Senior Hannah Adamczyk trimmed the deficit to 4-1 in the top of the third inning when she hit into a double play with the bases loaded, driving in freshman Gabriella Hessenthaler on the play.

But, Florida State answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to extend its advantage to 7-1.

Travers completed the scoring in the top of the sixth inning when she hit a solo home run to left field.

Five different Seahawks collected a hit in the loss, including Travers, who finished the doubleheader with a 4-for-5 effort and three runs scored.

Senior Haley Lenderman took the loss in the circle for the Seahawks, allowing six earned runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings.

Up Next: The Seahawks continue play at the Joanne Graf Classic on Saturday with a pair of games against UNCG and Iowa State.
