Seahawks Fall at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Junior catcher Meghan Whitecavage drove in two runs, but it was not enough as UNCW dropped its final game at the Holy City Showdown with a 5-2 decision against Charleston Southern at the CSU Softball Field on Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Seahawks' record to 6-7 while Charleston Southern stands at 5-12 after ending an eight-game losing streak.

Whitecavage was one of four Seahawks to record a hit in the loss, joining senior Kali Jones, freshman Janel Gamache and sophomore Emily Langkamp.

Junior Rylee Pate took the loss in the circle for the Seahawks, allowing four earned runs on five hits over 3.0 innings.

How It Happened: Charleston Southern scored five runs over the first three innings, including three in the first inning, to take a 5-0 lead it did not relinquish. UNCW trimmed the margin to 5-2 when Whitecavage hit a two-run single in the seventh inning, but the Seahawks were unable to get any closer.

Up Next: UNCW returns home to welcome UMBC, Lehigh and North Carolina A&T to Boseman Field next weekend for the Courtyard by Marriott Seahawk Softball Classic.
