Seahawks Win Third Straight In Comeback Fashion

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior Cole Weiss banged out three hits and drove in the eventual winning run in the seventh inning as UNCW again rallied for win over VMI, taking Sunday's game by score of 5-3 at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 3-1 with their third consecutive win after dropping their season opener on Friday. The Keydets, meanwhile, closed their opening weekend with a 2-2 mark.

Junior reliever Henry Ryan (2-0) earned his second win in as many outings with three innings of shutout relief.

Freshman reliever Nathan Light (0-1) was saddled with the loss in his collegiate debut.

Weiss doubled in a run earlier in the game and finished with two runs batted in. Sophomore Doug Angeli added two hits.

Jake Huggins, Ryan Hatten and Matt Keane had RBI hits for the Keydets.

The Seahawks trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth before outscoring VMI, 4-0, from the sixth through eighth innings.

UP NEXT: The Seahawks continue their season-opening eight-game homestand on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. start against nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In the UNCW seventh, Weiss stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second and two out and lined a single into left scoring Angeli with the go-ahead run, 4-3. Angeli opened the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt by Chris Thorburn.
