Bender Sets UNCW-Record In Setback

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Despite 18 kills and a school-record from senior Kendall Bender, UNCW was unable to overcome 14 service errors as William & Mary knocked off the Seahawks in five sets (25-15, 14-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday at Hanover Hall.

The Tribe picked up its first conference win of the season in improving to 5-9 and 1-2. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped their third straight to slide to 10-6 and 0-3. UNCW has now dropped consecutive five-set decisions after winning its first four matches that went the distance.

Bender hit a school-record .739 on the night, committing just one hitting error in 23 attacks. The Seahawks, however, hit just .141 on the night.

Lauren Merrill paced the Tribe with 15 kills and was joined in double-digits by Kate Dedrick with 10.

The Seahawks host Elon on Sunday at 1 p.m.
