Volleyball Swept By Dukes

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW received strong play at the net from senior Kendall Bender and sophomore Rebecca Nuanez, but James Madison knocked off UNCW in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Sunday in Hanover Hall.

The Dukes ran their record to 14-6 overall on the season and remain in second place in the conference with an 8-2 mark. The Seahawks fell to 12-11 and 2-8.

Bender paced the Seahawks up front with eight kills and four blocks while Nuanez made the most of her 10 attacks, posting four kills. The Seahawks were limited to a .085 hitting average by the Dukes.

Senior Briley Brind'Amour held match-high honors with 12 kills and added six digs. Sophomore Sophia Davis chipped in nine kills and three blocks.

In the opening set, UNCW held an 18-16 lead late, but following a timeout by JMU, the Dukes reeled off the next three points and closed out the set on a 9-2 run.

In the second set, the Seahawks forced several ties late in the set, including at 23-all on a kill from freshman Katie Lanz, but JMU put it away with a kill from Davis and a hitting error by UNCW.

The Seahawks return to action on Nov. 1 at Elon.
