Hunt Sparks Seahawks To Eighth Straight

UNCW returns to court following 22-day layoff with CAA sweep

NEWARK, Del. – Senior Halle Hunt's 11 kills sparked UNCW to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday, extending the Seahawks' winning streak to eight matches.

The Seahawks, who were playing for the first time in 22 days because of Hurricane Florence, ran their record to 9-3 and 1-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Blue Hens, meanwhile, dropped their sixth consecutive outing to fall to 6-10 and 0-4 in the league.

The victory was UNCW's sixth straight road win in the series.

"I'm proud of our team's resilience and it felt good to be back on the court competing," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Even after some time off, the team is still eager and fighting for the same goals we set out to accomplish this season."

Hunt finished with a .400 hitting average with 11 kills and one error in 25 attacks. The Seahawks combined for a .225 average and committed just 13 hitting errors. Hunt added nine digs, finishing one shy of posting a double-double.

"Hunt found a way to get kills in a lot of different situations and across the board our front row players did a great job blocking and slowing down the key hitters for Delaware."

Kendall Bender chipped in nine kills and paced the Seahawks with four blocks. UNCW posted a 9-6 advantage in blocks.

Three Seahawks finished with 10-or-more digs with Maddy Kline and Katie McCullough finishing with a team-high 15 apiece.

Michaela White posted a double-double of 13 assists and 10 digs.

UD's Maria Bellinger held match-high honors with 13 kills while Andie Hanus also held high honors with 23 digs.

The Seahawks open a three-match homestand on Oct. 3 with an 8 p.m. start against the College of Charleston. The next three matches, including Northeastern (Oct. 5) and Hofstra (Oct. 7), will be played at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington.
