Winning Streak Snapped In Loss To CofC

The Seahawks dropped a 3-1 decision to Charleston on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Maddy Kline's match-high 13 kills weren't enough as UNCW saw its eight-match winning streak halted in a 3-1 (18-25, 24-26, 25-15, 15-25) loss to Colonial Athletic Association leader College of Charleston on Wednesday at Cape Fear Academy.

The Seahawks fell to 8-4 overall with the loss and 1-1 in the conference. The match was UNCW's first home match since Sept. 4 after Hurricane Florence canceled a home tournament and postponed two more.

Charleston, meanwhile, ran its winning streak to five by improving to 13-5 and 4-0.

Kennedy Madison, Devon Rachel and Lauren Freed finished with 12 kills apiece as the Cougars finished with a .252 hitting average. Defensively, CofC fashioned a 72-46 advantage in digs with four reaching double digits.

Heading up that defensive charge was setter Allison Beckman with 16 and finished off a double-double with a match-high 44 assists.

Joining Kline in double-figure kills was senior Halle Hunt with 11.

Junior Kendall Bender added nine kills and six blocks for the Seahawks, who dealt the Cougars their first set loss in conference play.

Senior Katie McCullough held match-high honors for the Seahawks with 19 digs.

The Seahawks continue their three-match homestand on Friday with a 2 p.m. start against Northeastern. The match will be played at Cape Fear Academy.
