Seahawks Fly Past W&M, 3-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – UNCW used two goals in the first half to build an early lead against William & Mary en route to defeating the Tribe, 3-1, in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Martin Family Stadium at Albert Daly Field on Thursday evening.

The win elevated the Seahawks' record to 7-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the CAA. William & Mary, meanwhile, dropped to 4-7-0 overall with a 1-2-0 mark against league foes after losing for the fourth time in the last five games.

Sophomore Marissa Vincent gave UNCW a quick 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when she deflected a corner kick by sophomore Molly McGarry to earn the first goal of her college career.

The Seahawks increased the margin to 2-0 with 22:22 left in the opening stanza when sophomore Grace Bondurant converted a pass from junior Baley Edwards to post her second goal of the year.

After William & Mary trimmed its deficit to 2-1 on a goal by redshirt junior Sarah Segan just over three minutes into the second half, junior Dominque Martinez reclaimed the Seahawks' two-goal advantage with 10:54 remaining when she knocked in a pass by sophomore Audrey Harding to score her second goal of the season.

Senior Caitie Broderick and sophomore Sydney Schneider combined to make three saves for UNCW, which held a 15-12 advantage in shots. Broderick tallied two saves in the first half before Schneider added a save in the second half.

Junior Katelyn Briguglio tallied two saves for William & Mary, which lost to UNCW for just the third time in the all-time series.
