#14 Seahawks Soar Past Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Junior forward Phillip Goodrum scored two goals with an assist and senior defender Huntley Munn added three assists as No. 14 UNCW surged past the College of Charleston, 4-1, in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at Patriots Point on Wednesday evening.

The win upped the Seahawks' record to 6-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CAA while Charleston dropped to 3-5-1 overall with a 0-2-0 mark in league play.

Goodrum gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when he converted a pass from senior midfielder Ben Fisher and scored on a 12-yard shot past senior goalkeeper Treston Kederer.

With 7:51 left in the first half, Goodrum extended the UNCW advantage to 2-0 with his second goal of the game off a pass from Munn.

But, Charleston trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the 44th minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Rio Murray. He netted his second marker of the season off an assist from sophomore midfielder Marcelo Malpartida.

Sophomore forward Emil Elveroth regained the Seahawks' two-goal advantage in the 56th minute with his fifth goal of the season, scoring off passes from Munn and Goodrum.

UNCW added an insurance goal from freshman forward Cesar Cruz with 18:40 remaining. Munn sent a pass into the box to Elveroth, who one-timed a shot that was deflected by Cruz for his second goal of the season.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Ryan Cretens made one save in the win for UNCW, which outshot Charleston by a 16-8 margin. Kederer notched three saves for the Cougars, who dropped their third straight game.
