WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Redshirt freshman
Morgan Nanni scored two goals and added an assist as UNCW won its third straight game with a 3-0 victory over Cleveland State at the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who won the tournament with victories over the Vikings and Kent State, upped their record to 5-1-0 on the season while Cleveland State saw its record drop to 3-3-0.
Nanni, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half when she scored off assists from redshirt sophomore
Lauren Ellis and sophomore
Audrey Harding.
With 22:46 left in the second half, junior
Dominique Martinez upped the advantage to 2-0 when she converted passes from Nanni and freshman
Brooklyn Berry for her first goal of the season.
The Seahawks closed out the scoring with 12:30 remaining when Nanni took a pass from redshirt junior
Blair Pearce and scored her second goal of the game on a shot from the top of the penalty area.
Senior
Caitie Broderick tallied one save to earn her first solo shutout at UNCW as the Seahawks limited the Vikings to just two shots.
Sophomore Stevie Holbrook made a career-high 10 saves in the loss for Cleveland State, which lost for the third time in the last four outings.
