Volleyball Comes Up Short At Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – Maddy Kline finished with eight kills and seven digs to lead UNCW, but the Seahawks were swept by host Northern Colorado, 2-0 (25-10, 25-22,25-22) on Friday at UNC's Bank of Colorado Arena.

The Seahawks, who dropped their season-opener to Illinois earlier in the day, fell to 0-2 with the loss. UNC, meanwhile, won its season-opener.

"We knew this road trip was going to test us early and in both matches we played good in spurts, but need more consistency from the start," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Brynn (Montgomery) had a strong showing on the day with both her attacking and setting. Anna Moss abd Rebecca Nuanez attacked well against Northern Colorado and we need to find ways to get them more opportunities to score."

UNC got out to a fast start taking the opening set, 25-10, and held off the Seahawks in the final two sets by identical scores of 25-22.

Senior middle hitter Anna Moss and sophomore setter Brynn Montgomery combined to hit .310 on the night, each with five kills.

Montgomery added 10 assists and senior setter Michaela White doled out a team-high 17.

Kortney Lockey held match-high honors for the Bears with 14 kills and finished with a .344 hitting average.

Setter Daisy Schultz finished with 41 assists as the Bears hit .296.

The Seahawks close out their trip on Saturday with a 1 p.m. EST start at 25th-ranked Colorado State in Fort Collins.
