Seniors Pace Seahawks In Exhibition Win

Volleyhawks rally past UNCG for preseason victory on Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Halle Hunt held match-high honors with 15 kills and fellow senior Michaela White added a double-double of 30 assists and 19 kills as UNCW topped UNCG, 3-1, in an exhibition match on Saturday at Fleming Gym.

The Seahawks, who open their regular season next Friday against nationally-ranked Illinois in Fort Collins, Colo., dropped the opening set (25-15) before rallying to win the next three sets (25-23, 25-20, 27-25).

Joining Hunt in double-digit kills was another senior Maddy Kline, who finished with 10 kills and seven digs and senior Katie McCullough chipped in a match-high 22 digs.

Defensively, the Seahawks turned up their performance in the finals three sets, limiting the Spartans to a .056 hitting average while posting a .151 hitting average of their own.

Anna Moss, a senior, paced the Seahawks with five total blocks as UNCW out blocked UNG, 9-5.

UNCW visits Colorado for three matches next week to open its 10th season under the direction of Head Coach Amy Bambenek. The Seahawks open with the 12th-ranked Fighting Illini on Friday afternoon before heading to Greely, Colo., that evening for a match against Northern Colorado. The Seahawks conclude their season-opening weekend on Saturday with a match against 25th-ranked Colorado State in Fort Collins.
